Kazantzakis’ novel (which is genuinely great) was condemned by both the Catholic and Orthodox churches already, and Scorsese’s take is generally pretty faithful to the ideas explored in the book. That’s the problem traditionalists have with both: They make you think about faith.

Compare/contrast to Gibson’s PASSION, which is *from* a tradCath and has absolutely nothing meaningful to say about faith.
