This is the "my parents beat me, and NOTHING BAD LED FROM THAT JUST TRUST ME" argument.

You had training for that particular firearm. You were supervised and held accountable for its purpose. You returned it in the same condition when your tour ended. It's not the same as an unsupervised teen purchasing and using it without licensure, training & supervision.
-
I don't think Jeet had that kind of training or supervision.

Military “respect the gun” discipline is real an effective. I got a bit second hand from my dad. It won’t stop the killer with a rifle, perhaps, but would prevent all the kids killed in handgun “accidents.”

I suspect that most military veterans with kids are horrified by this picture.pic.twitter.com/c9soB9lXtf

I'd be ok with 18 year olds owning guns if they had to go through boot camp first.

Doesn't it prove that an 18 year old did a great mistake and ruined many lives because they did not even think about how unwarranted that war was?

That rifle was accompanied by many hours of training with experienced personnel. A person found to be unfit to have that weapon or to serve would be discharged. Versus any random 18yo unsupervised civilian with extreme violence and anger issues being able to buy one on demand.
