It seems like that had briefly become the procedure. I don't specifically seek out the name of shooters, so I only hear their name if it's mentioned on the news or is floating out on the timeline. I think this is the first mass shooter whose name I know since Parkland.

I knew ideological motivations for New Zealand, El Paso, Atlanta spa, and Buffalo shootings. But I didn't (and still don't) know their names. It's a contrast with Marc Lepine, Dylan Roof, and Elliot Rodgers who I think were names that news savvy people would recognize.

This is a good idea regardless, but I do wonder if that would decrease the exposure for the people most likely to commit mass shootings. The fame and idolatry of mass shooters is coming from places like 4chan, not the NYT or CNN.
