3. More broadly, search for GOP voters has governed how Dem leadership opposed Trump: i.e. the decision to focus on Russiagate as against wider Trump corruption (see Saudi Arabia). This too hasn't yielded much in way of winning over voters.

I don't really feel like Clinton was "sufficiently" centrists but I agree that the Biden win was much more narrow than it would need to be for the theory to feel robust

Clinton was seen by voters as much more liberal than Trump was conservative. If Sanders had won the nomination he likely would've lost in a landslide.

Actually Democrats could have nominated literally any other person on the planet and won. Clinton was just that disliked, fair or not.
