I think, and frankly this is just a guess, he's arguing that Dems/liberals are "setting expectations" and thus shifting the Overton window. But it's a bad claim. They're responding to an already shifting Overton window where anti-democratic principles are on the rise in the GOP.

He's less wrong than he sounds. Rightwingers instinctively understand certain words like "tyranny". If you say someone is a tyrant, deposing them - even violently - is lawful. So if you tell them tyranny has arrived, they're primed for revolt. The left just can't hear this stuff.
