So the two paths to legal power are Ivy League meritocracy and evangelical theocracy. Worth thinking about the relative attention Harvard Law gets in, say the NY Times, compared to Regent University.https://twitter.com/chrissy_smithy/status/1527353620244549647 …

    Jeet Heer added,

    Chrissy Smith @chrissy_smithy
Harvard Law School, ranked 4th in the country, sent 18.3% of its 2020 graduates to clerkships. Regent University’s law school, ranked 142nd and founded by Pat Robertson, sent 23.5%.

Also worth noting that a Regent class is ~85 while a Harvard class is ~550.

How much of this is a split between Ivy League schools versus Regent’s being the prime (or only) path for theocrats?

Gotta pump the brakes a little on this bc this doesn’t differentiate between Federal and State clerkships. BYU’s rising federal clerkship #s however should get scrutiny

The difference in the kinds of clerkships these kids are getting is significant. the graduates from Regent are clerking at relatively insignificant state courts. The Harvard grads are at powerful federal courts.

Relatively insignificant? The vast majority of legal work is done in state court and the vast vast majority of personal rights are asserted and litigated in state courts. Federal courts are more prestigious, but generally much less significant to the lives of most people

When we talk about reforming the courts, I think it should include a quota of public law school school grads.
