Birth control was illegal in states like Connecticut as recently as 1965. That's not that long ago. My parent's were around then, probably your parents too.

Of course some people believe it. But even the law just passed in Oklahoma, where they're quite explicit about wanting to outdo all the other states on anti-abortion legislation, explicitly exempts IUDs and emergency contraception.
