It's certainly possible that the Buffalo terrorist is aware that Ukrainian fascist Azov regiment uses the Nazi "black sun." But more likely source is the manifesto of the man he names as inspiration, the Christchurch terrorist, who closes *his* manifesto with it.

I see it as a moot point. If it’s at all fascist it’s too fascist for me—but the ideas that Ukraine is fascist or that the US shouldn’t support Ukraine certainly don’t follow.

We keep a careful watch on the battalion or regiment or whatever they're called now, whatever happens next re: Putin v. Ukraine.

Azov itself’s under new leadership, the whole battalion’s now under control of the regime and not a soccer hooligan militia in Donbas, and the ranks have been diluted by the professionalized Ukrainian National Guard.

The question isn’t whether Azov is perfect, but the truth of charge that it’s fundamentally a fascist organization pursuing its own independent fascist ends (which it absolutely was in 2014), as opposed to a Ukrainian military unit.
