This article piqued my interest and I was sorry to see it end so abruptly. Obviously, in her private life, Decter did not practice what she preached, despite how much her obits try to paper that over. We are ruled by awful people.

Glad you managed to work in the Rumsfeld book at the end. It's been passed over in some of the obits, though I think it's a really important lens through which to view her lifelong views and their interaction with Bush-era conservatism.

When I was passing through the Bloom academy in Chicago like an airplane in a zone of extreme turbulence trying not to crash Jon Podhoretz was studying w Bloom. Apparently Midge Decter thought he was a bad influence. As for Bloom I somehow remember him calling her Mrs Dreckter.

There's a history of Podhoretz/Decter distrusting the Straussians going back to Werner Dannhauser dating one of their daughters.
