This is 50% accurate! Chuck Schumer hit this one out of the ball park: there's nothing wrong with peace protests.https://twitter.com/jonathanchait/status/1524105516007534593 …

I think it's both the case that protests at houses are legitimately troubling, and that the current response to abortion protests is overwrought https://nymag.com/intelligencer/2022/05/abortion-protest-kavanaugh-alito-collins-court-roe-moral-panic.html?utm_campaign=nym&utm_source=tw&utm_medium=s1 … pic.twitter.com/xEAKdTDC2g

This is a good thread documenting that protesting outside the homes of judges has a long history in USA, has been done for all sorts of causes good & bad, and hasn't been seen as scandalous or "troubling" until now.https://twitter.com/pashulman/status/1524090427619618817 …

I wanted to learn more about protests at judge's homes. Here are some examples of what I found: protesting a San Antonio federal judge for imprisoning a tax protestor, September, 1984. In a sign of how the world has changed, the paper helpfully published his address. pic.twitter.com/OdyJEnZsRa

To give this elite freak-out the benefit of the doubt, after Jan. 6 people are understandably nervous about brittleness of USA system. But it has to be understood that trying to delegitimize peaceful protest will make crisis much worse. Weakens a crucial safety valve.

If judges have power over the most intimate parts of life about fundamental rights, if the political system is gridlocked, and if people don't feel like they're allowed to voice their opposition to be heard if not abided by, then what's left?

They could voice their opposition somewhere other than the judge’s house? Also presumably the judge’s family (particularly children if they have any) have nothing to do with this & shouldn’t be subjected to an angry mob terrorizing them at their home?

Children should learn about politics. It's not "terrorizing" unless you are a crybaby bedwetter. It's just protesting.

Kavanaugh & Barrett both have young children. You don’t think it’s a little unfair to having screaming, angry people at their front door? Whatever you think of the judges themselves their kids are completely innocent in all this.

You are making a bit of a straw man argument here - equating “maybe individual’s families should be off limits” to people being “denied a voice”. You can always go protest literally *anywhere* else.

When it comes to peaceful protests on public land, saying you can protest somewhere else makes no sense.
