This is such gas-lighting. Of course overturning Roe is by itself important. But people are concerned about Griswold, Lawrence, Obergefell because decisions are often criticized by conservatives, including by supreme court justices, including by Alito in the draft he wrote!https://twitter.com/jbarro/status/1522223062678224901 …

In the 50-campaign to overturn Roe, the religious right effected a massive realignment of USA politics & got the court to do something that really goes against preference of prudential wing of GOP. Why would such an energized movement stop at Roe?

This is a great point. Based on what we already know from Thomas and Alito's prior comments & decisions, there's every reason to worry about Obergefell (and Griswold & Lawrence).https://twitter.com/flglmn/status/1522228060770156544 …

It's an invitation for state AGs to throw cases at them. It also would appear to validate any sodomy laws still in place.

He's Republican. Turns out you can't believe anything a Republican says, particularly a Republican Justice.

And as the court is not ruling on Obergefell or Lawrence or whatever, those are obiter dicta, remarks made in passing, which don't mean anything to anything for the future.

Dicta isn't binding, but to say it "doesn't mean anything to anything for the future" is just wrong. It reflects the thinking of the justices who sign the opinion. The right-wing judicial machinery will calibrate future efforts accordingly. It means something.

You say you're worried about consequences of the thing -- guess that means you're not worried about the thing itself. Haha!

alito and thomas wrote in 2020 that obergefell has had "ruinous consequences for religious liberty" and that "the Court has created a problem that only it can fix." we don't need to extrapolate from the Dobbs draft to know what he thinks about Obergefell, he keeps saying itpic.twitter.com/fXWqGqHXeN
