A writer friend recently complaining about how he donated his papers to Yale and now the librarians can't locate some of his most prized possessions, including tapes of an interview with Sontag and correspondence with Guy Davenport. Yikes.

In my experience here, the librarians here will often go out of their way to get stuff for one, including looking for it. If it's stuff he recently passed along, it's worth speaking to them at length about it. The libraries are open now. Let me know if you need a contact in NH.
