If lee never wrote a damn thing why were the books where he worked with Kirby and Ditko so much better than the ones those two wrote alone?

No, the books Kirby worked on in the 1940s/1950s and 1970s were better than collaboration with Lee. And Ditko's solo work, although not my cup of tea, has some value.

Stan positively provided the overflowing archness of the phabulous phraseology, Tiger! By which I mean, I'll readily spot him "glitzy" and a number of other adjectives and readily believe that he rewrote Jack and Steve to be more flippantly arch, with manufactured slang.
