The truth is they were misled but not by the nominees. They were misled by themselves. They convinced sold the lies not just to voters but to themselves.

Or. They lied, and just assumed nothing would ever come of it.

Neither Collins nor Murkowski will suffer any consequences for being “misled”. They’ll keep their seats forever, and they’re Senators so if they have a relative who needs an abortion, they can get one.

False. Collins just got reelected--and is 69--so it may be moot. But if Roe is overturned, she will never win another race in Maine.

What's your take on Manchin and the filibuster? Do you think he actually believes the GOP, which are actively planning on overturning future elections, will honor the "norms" once they seize power? That they won't chuck it when convenient?https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/27/opinions/gop-blueprint-to-steal-the-2024-election-luttig/index.html …

Collins and Murkowski weren't misled. Regardless whether or not all the Republican-nominated SCOTUS justices they voted to confirm said they respected precedent and considered Roe to be "settled law," everybody present knew this was a lie. Including these GOP Senators.

I think this is correct. Willful credulousness. They very much wanted to believe what they were told, so they mostly did. I definitely don't think either anticipated this outcome, and certainly not at anything approaching this pace.
