The Freudian insight into groups is they turn on belonging and exile, libidinal investment, and identification—strong forces on their own that become exacerbated by class processes. It’s amazing how often people say they are talking about the latter when talking about the former.

This accounts, imo, for probably 80% of the confusion when talking about class as larger than life figurations of personalities, especially under the cover of a sociological mode.
