The notion that forgiving student debt is unfair to those who have paid off their debt implies that any new policy that helps anyone is unfair because it wasn't previously in existence to help those who can no longer benefit. So it's a non sequitur that implies no new policies.

The structural (and at this point political) problem is that debt forgiveness of whatever kind is great demand-side stimulus in a downturn but not when the economy is growing and inflation is at its highest in decades.
