Left position on this: -"Abolish the police!" -"Ok, just defund it." -"Who said defund? We meant reform it." -"Nobody ever said we would defund the police, lol you're crazy." -"Why do you keep saying that we wanted to defund the police?" -"If you mention it again we're screwed."https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1516786026550906889 …

"Defund the police" was the *moderate* position among activists and the left writ large and was supported by a number of national figures. The left position was abolition. Yes, Joe Biden opposed it, but many other leading Dems winked and nodded at it to placate activists.
-
Biden is the party's standard bearer, he literally ran on giving more money to the police, which is what he's done. And Dems now routinely ignore police killings. Dems as a whole are pretty reactionary on these issues

Lol literally every left aligned organization/group came out in favor of it. People who pointed out how dumb/toxic it was were either fired or shouted down.
-
You can say it was wrong, and Jeet has done so consistently. But saying "almost nobody" supported it doesn't line up with what happened.

What this election is about is how much more brutal should the police be.

“Defund the police” was literally the mantra. If what they meant was actually “reform the police and spend money where needed to make communities safer” they should have said that!

It was the demand of the largest civil rights protest in US history.
