Chomsky's "way the world works" argument doesn't make sense either on a moral or a level level. First, of all you could apply the same logic to Palestine: "Well, look you just need to accept you're a defeated people, continuing to resist is just creating bloodshed etc."

The negotiations are as mythical as the two state solution.

Is someone asking Ukraine to negotiate?

Chomsky is. That's how this thread started.

What negotiations? There've been a series of ultimatums and then a "okay we have your positions, we'll take this to our boss who's the only one who can make a decision" message, followed by a "negotiations have broken down" message. Real negotiations haven't happened yet.

Negotiations, meaning they pretend to be sincere so that they can regroup and gain the initiative through sneak attacks.

I mean, the thing is, the potential terms that Chomsky outlined aren't unreasonable, but they're ones that RUS has already ruled one. If you're calling for DNR/LNR to be re-integrated into UKR as autonomous regions, you're calling for continued UKR victories to gain that.
-
Or, in other words, a negotiated settlement is good/inevitable, but the idea that it can be done without continued military resistance only makes sense in a world where the US is the true cause of the war and RUS demands are limited and static. Which I do not believe is true.
