Ukraine has to do this because the Russians are infamous for abandoning their dead on the battlefield. The Ukrainians are also taking the time to bury fallen Russian soldiers.https://twitter.com/drewharwell/status/1514941871830835200 …

It sounds like the way they’re notifying the survivors is unnecessarily antagonistic, but they’re actually providing a very important service that Russia is not providing for the families of its own soldiers.

They shouldn't be taking the photos, they shouldn't taunting the families of the dead. This is utterly vile.

Someone has to keep a record to identify the dead and Russia’s not doing it. Russia is abandoning the bodies of its own troops to rot.

Are people criticizing them for keeping records or for violating the Geneva Convention and using photographs to taunt the families of the dead? I think this part of the article is instructive.pic.twitter.com/Voz9O6d4gi

Yeah, while it might be something to document it, and while it seems good to try to turn Russian public opinion, in the hands of mere mortals this is not good. Not good at all.

The whole "they have to document it" is a canard. Russian soldiers have dog tags. Ukraine could easily just compile a list of those killed. Taking photos of the dead bodies is completely unnecessary aside from wanting to taunt the soldiers' families.

taking the names and tags is the documentation. the photos.... no. Sending the photos? Absolutely wrong.
