Via @DiventiTom: Today, Poe is a Baltimore icon and institution. Like John Waters, only creepier. Bon vivants of the absurd. Without them, Baltimore doesn’t have a lot of extremely interesting stuff going on.https://www.splicetoday.com/writing/poe-boy#.Yk8_avcRG48.twitter …

Anne Tyler is like the old TNR joke abt Worthwhile Canadian Initiative. First name and last name are so bland and then they add up to the person who writes those damn books.

The first two Books on Tape I ever listened to (this is 30 years back) were Anne Tyler novels. I was driving hundreds of miles. And they were amazingly good. I've never actually sat down and tried to work my way through her oeuvre.

I have. Her latest French Braid is a stinker but earlier novels like Homesick Restaurant, Accidental Tourist and Amateur Marriage are classics.

John Barth is also a great Baltimore writer. And Mencken.

Replying to @HeerJeet @thenyforum and
Obviously Barth, although he grew up on Eastern Shore. And Mencken and Russell Baker, but
@DiventiTom wasn’t going for laundry list.0 replies 1 retweet 3 likesThanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo
