Schmitt is the equivalent of Frank Meyer or Scalia. Very little that's original in the larger philosophy (he's just a figure who got vastly inflated by the left) but whose significance lies in how he operationalized the larger ideas within an institutional context. This is why

there's always a second tier of super important but not all that intellectually innovative action intellectuals who are often jurists. The law is the perfect realm for operationalizing the ideas, and that's where a figure like Schmitt matters.
