This is a good thread, but to be a *masterpiece* it would need to work in Patrick McGoohan.https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1501948233425162240 …

      1. So I have a few thoughts on The King's Man, The 39 Steps, Hitchcock, James Bond, Gertrude Himmelfarb, the CIA, and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Although one of the problems is Jeet Heer is such a partisan figure willing to bend facts to narrative I don't know how much is BS. Cause I've seen a lot of BS from him. Like he's calling ppl antisemites. But he throws around accusations like they're candy.

Also, I wasn't watching closely but when was the bad guy in The King's Man Jewish? I remember his speech about Scotland. But don't remember the Jewish angle. I'm not saying it wasn't there. I just don't remember it.

There are 2 villains. The first is Scottish. After he's killed he's replaced by Erik Jan Hanussen, a real life Austrian Jew, shown to be mastermind controlling both Hitler (!) and Lenin. The idea of Jewish leader of such a conspiracy is, to put it mildly, not good.

But was the character (prominently) Jewish in the movie? I mean who watching the movie knows who that is? I don't remember them making a big deal about it. And the underlying conspiracy IIRC is about Scottish independence. And the most memorable villain is Rasputin. It seems >

Like is this complaint about the worries of the non-existent viewer who's watching THE KING'S MAN and then running to wikipedia to learn more about history? Like it's schlock. I don't think anyone who enjoyed that movie (i.e. would be influenced by it) is learning about the real>

This chart that shows the movie itself and Rasputin (the one with the biggest part and best fight scene) being looked up. (i.e. not Erik Jan Hanussen)
