      1. So I have a few thoughts on The King's Man, The 39 Steps, Hitchcock, James Bond, Gertrude Himmelfarb, the CIA, and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

At some point you need to do a threat on Doctor Who as a reaction to the loss of the British Empire and it's recompense through failed British Europeanism as the Doctor works through the UN The aliens always seem to invade Britain first in that show...https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1501948233425162240?s=20&t=pXsWDIX5g05etfjH35kEuw …

I have some thoughts on this. The Dalleks are obviously nazis, for a start.

Please do it. I was never able to make sense of where the franchise comes from and I'd love to read your take on this.

If Dr Who is political commentary some of the symbolism is not so nice. Dalleks == Nazis Cybermen == Soviets Sontarans == WW2 Era Japan The Ood == A white-man-burdenesq cautionary tale about British Imperialism The Silence == Jews? (Always got a big antisemitic vibe off them)

It's well recorded that Daleks were deliberately designed to be space nazis, & cybermen were originally inspired by organ transplants, body modification & "dehumanising technology"

Invading UK first is primarily simply a function of it all being written and filmed in UK (for UK viewers originally). Inevitable in the original series and the modern version was always likely to continue the 'tradition'.

Liz Sandifer did all that with Doctor Who a decade ago.

This is part of it, but I'm mostly interested in the idea that the Doctor works through a fantasy version of the UN with its own secret army and how that reflects both accommodation and rejection of Britain's reduced international role Also as internationalist fantasy for kids
