Biden's reaction so far, walking a super fine line between reacting to the invasion of an independent country, and saving the world from a nuclear holocaust, was, I think, absolutely perfect. I am afraid that many people are unable to see how hard this is to do.

Perhaps they do not realize that in a nuclear war, they could be dead within 7 minutes.

I honestly think it's a generational thing and there is a whole cohort of policy makers formed by the unipolar moment that don't understand Russia as a nuclear peer. Biden was 19 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He remembers.

I wouldn’t overstate the number of nat sec individuals or elected officials calling for NFZ. A vocal Adam Kinzinger and a few media members may send lots of tweets, but this does not negate the restraint demonstrated generally across the board (thank goodness

Are the security people also pressuring him? (Dont know) The public is pressuring based on media which is running content not reports. Plus hubris of 90s. The Ukrainians are demanding it because of desperation and the hell they are already in.
