It was certainly wrong to launch and continue 20 years of wars in the middle east, but its only irrational if you dont consider the goal of our military contractors was to extract trillions in profits from the taxpayers and the war effort itself was almost a secondary concern.

Putin didn't invent unilateralism. The 2003 invasion of Iraq was criminal, not irrational. Neo-cons hoped bypassing the UN would diminish the importance of the rule of law, worldwide; it worked.
