Yes. After years of studying / arguing with Berkeley NIMBYs, I’m convinced that they aren’t trying to maximize the sale value (cash price) of their house. They’re trying to maximize the use value (enjoyment) of it. Control of the surrounding neighborhood is essential to that.

As a progressive it’s incredibly frustrating to me that either way they’re focusing on the value to themselves, and cloaking it with progressive sounding language…
