8. More broadly, the whole story shows how the claim of Russian disinformation (sometimes real, sometimes not) is used as a smokescreen to hide real problems that deserve scrutiny & criticism.

Do you accept the fact that the Russian embassy shopped this weaponization of Freeland's family history around in an attempt to launder it through more reputable sources?pic.twitter.com/1yYgC5WpZ4

Sure, but the facts of the story are independent of whatever use the Russians try to make of it.

Though to be certain, the only fact that's been established is that her grandfather was the editor of a newspaper in nazi occupied Ukranian. The rest is conjecture.

The contents of the newspaper are also "established facts" as are photos of him socializing with Nazis. This sort of liberal whitewash helps nobody.pic.twitter.com/iP43KKW96W

Freeland is supposed to beg for forgiveness because... Her grandfather was photographed in the background of a photo with a nazi in it? These allegations of what Freeland is supposed to denounce are getting more and more spurious.

Not Freeland. You. You said only fact is he worked on newspaper. That's a whitewashing of history that serves no purpose. Certainly doesn't help Freeland.

Are there any other details of his work product other than the fact he was an editor there? Was he responsible for literally all of it? A photograph of a nazi with Freeland's grandfather in the background isn't evidence of him inciting pogroms.

I would advise looking into the research of Alex Boykowich and John-Paul Himka (as it happen Freeland's uncle and Michael Chomiak's son-in-law, so hardly a hostile source).

I will absolutely do so at your suggestion, but himka also asserts the holodomor was not a genocide, so excuse me if I take his accusation of "nazi" with a grain of salt...pic.twitter.com/fz01etpHs0

Wait, that scholarly debate bothers you but a guy editing an antisemitic & pro-Nazi newspaper during the Holocaust is okay?
