no, but in terms of actually posing a problem to russian people the shock therapy is obviously much more impactful than the threat of nato expansion ever has been.

Me neither, but I think many are overstating the case against NATO and wildly understating the case against Jeff Sachs and Larry Summers. “Neoliberalism caused the failure of Russia’s experiment with democracy” is both truer and more politically advantageous than “blame NATO.”

I really see the two working hand in hand -- that the material immisseration coming at time of Nato expansion made it seem like "democracy" was just a western plot.
