I thought Jacobin still believes the invasion isn't happening and is just fearmongering on the part of the blob? I'm gonna pass on taking their foreign policy takes seriously for a while.
-
You may be surprised to learn that ‘Jacobin’ isn’t a person, but instead a collection of writers with varying opinions.

It’s obvious by now this will escalate to fully sanctioning on their energy markets. West/EU seems to be scrambling and needs to plan before cutting Russian oil/gas off. Shock to markets might undercut their support at home.

I'd love to hear a non insane alternative to the sanctions. Haven't heard one yet.

Sanctions are aimed at executive leaders but they hit general populations. Let's say sanctions have their intended purpose and Putin falls victim to a palace coup. Inside 10 years you'll have an anti-US nationalist worldbeater worse than any Tom Clancy fever dream.
-
OR you have Boris Yeltsin 2.0. Or Andropov. Or Gorbachev even. OR Kerensky. Literally anything is possible after a palace coup. Sanctions could be more targeted but we can't just give him a high-five and say "good for you"

I suspect things will change in the spring. Germany need more time to get it's nuclear power stations on line and those two new liquified natural gas terminals built.

There are no active nuclear stations offline. Try again.
