Gary Kasparov is calling for maximum pressure on the Russian people. Are you directly saying he’s wrong?

Isn't the entire point of stuff like this is to have the people dislike it or feel restricted or deprived enough to rise up to demand their leader stop the aggression?

You want the people to feel like Putin's reckless actions are causing negative consequences. You don't want to want them to feel like their identity / nationality are under siege.

Sanctions are war, something we all should have learned in this country by 2003. And war fever is being stoked here, a fever that leads to WW3. Diplomacy to resolve both the Ukrainian civil war and the status of the LPR and DPR is the only way to avoid nuclear war

Honestly, you westerners never learn anything. Same happened with popularity of Milošević after sanctions were introduced. People know that sanctions target TEHEM rather than the leader. Not surprising at all that they rally around Putin. Sanctions will kill more people than war

Question though: when do sanctions truly separate? Costs are borne by the populace, those in power remain untouchable for long stretches and in authoritarian, strong arm, autocratic places, hard for people to rise up without severe personal penalty

You’ve forgotten how boycotts work. They only work if the general populace is affected somehow. South Africa.

I agree - keep the children out of it and deal with the adults.
