All that talk of honor and malevolent actors misses the point that the line has already been drawn and the line is NATO. While it's an awful crisis direct military intervention in ukraine isn't worth the risk of nuclear war when it wasn't part of NATO.

And if Putin says arming Ukrainians in any form is crossing a red line? Give into nuclear blackmail once and it will come calling again.

One thing is missing from this great article. In order to establish a No Fly Zone you need to have established air superiority. A no starter when you are not even engaged in the conflict

So, everyone will agree the below reasoning is wrong, but if Beauchamp is right, I don’t really see how: Tomorrow, Putin declares he is annexing the US, and will nuke anyone who opposes. As bad as it would be to become his slaves, nuclear war is far worse. So, we must surrender.
-
This is not intended to be an argument in favor of establishing a no-fly zone, to be clear. It is an argument that there is a step missing in Beauchamp’s argument, which turns on the claim that while it would horrible for Putin to annihilate Ukraine, nuclear war is worse.

Think this through.. a nuclear capable country gave up nukes for guarantees. Then got destroyed. If this country still exists in the future, why would it not arm it self to the teeth with nukes? Every country in the world is learning that lesson......
