2. In terms of responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, there are a range of proposals, some good & some insane. To sort them out, I talked to Matt Duss, one of the smartest foreign policy analysts I know.https://jeetheer.substack.com/p/podcast-how-to-help-ukraine?r=bh54&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email …

It’s merely a foolish proposal. The really dangerous ideas right now are all being entertained in Moscow.

If Belarus decides to join the invasion and make this a multi-state war, would expect the call for a NATO no-fly zone to increase. Deeply worrisome. Reminds me of how WWI started, with a series of interlocking alliances drawing more and more nations in one by one...

There is no alliance between Ukraine and NATO or the US that would draw either of them into a direct, broader war. The reason there isn’t such an alliance is that the US and NATO decided they would not be drawn into such a broader war for Ukraine.

It is madness. Yet “Nat sec pundits” = Zelensky, the man himself.https://www.axios.com/ukraine-no-fly-zone-zelensky-biden-russia-851f0309-902c-4215-b993-70cb042bf948.html …

It is entirely reasonable *from Zelensky*. *His* country already is on the verge of destruction, it’s perfectly reasonable to look for allies who could stop this. Something might turn up. At least it pressures those third countries to do related stuff like sell AA missiles
