Ideally this shouldn't even be a question. But since the hawks keep bringing it up, good to have this measured response.https://twitter.com/sahilkapur/status/1498347096088403974 …

It’s pretty new
Hard to tell the difference between Engle and Josh Rogin these days, tbh.
Yes. We just notice now because his views are out of step with current thinking. His viewpoint was revered in the 90's and 00's, we've just decided using American military might to solve all problems is no longer useful, Richard Engel has not.
I’ve definitely noticed it way more since the Afghanistan evacuation. Kinda respected him before that but yikes
I remember his Iraq and late-aughts Afghan war correspondent coverage and the guy just fucking loves war. His enthusiasm reminds me of Oklahoma weathermen when they're covering a tornado and they're getting too excited, but those guys recompose. He was born in the wrong century.
You think he should have been reporting on Napoleon?
There is a good chance he has been in hot zones for too long.
Maybe there are some at NBC News who are getting weepy-eyed and longing for the days when GE owned the network. "Back in my day, beating the drums of war was the war beat!"
i'm not totally sure? This partly a dimension of American network war coverage, suffering masses, and here's the solution, etc. But I don't feel like I noticed it before? I've always seen him as quite good. always there on the scene, not reporting from a distance. not sure.
in a matter of months, he torched his credibility.
