1. We're used to this but Trump's open admiration for Putin is remarkable. Nor is it a quirk of his personality. There's a wider swath of right wing opinion that is quite fairly described as Putin friendly.https://twitter.com/dabbs346/status/1496647138738159624 …

4. The roots of right-wing Russophilia are complex, mixing elements of anti-liberalism and white supremacy (sometimes in tension). Steve Bannon perhaps got to the nub by saying, admiringly, "Putin ain't woke."https://twitter.com/carolecadwalla/status/1496678275975897089 …

This is all true, but Trump specifically has a special peculiar affinity for Putin and Russia that is weird. I don't think it's just ideological.

I dunno, it's similar to his affinity with other authoritarian leaders (Xi, Kim, MBS)

Russia is less than 200 years removed from serfdom. The United States shared that belief and legal framework w/r/t slavery. Orthodox Slavophilles and White Christian Nationalists share common beliefs.

Regan, George H and George W, McCain, and Romney were all anti-fascist and anti-Russa. So Not sure what US right you are talking about? Trump has been a Republican for 6 years. Used to be a democrat.
