I’m confused why the Canadian government needs to invoke extraordinary powers to deal with the blockades when it’s been such a light touch with its ordinary powers. When people block streets, you can arrest them and impound their vehicles.

The OPP didn't need federal emergency powers to take over the situation, it was their jurisdiction the whole time.

I'm opposed to the emergency act which I think is overkill. Just trying to explain the path that led to it -- the key is Ottawa police deciding to disobey superiors.

It's a mystery; but now the chief is gone and they're acting so it does seem like the chief was the problem, for whatever reason.
