Are there any good essays on the Apple TV adaptation of Foundation. Seems like an under discussed show in general.
I agree that as an adaption the series is a travesty, violating not just the text (which is acceptable) but also completely inverting the spirit (which is a problem). But I wonder how the series looks as stand alone without regard to source material.

I’ve wondered about that. I’m actually not in a David S. Goyer Raped My Childhood mood about the series. I livetweeted a reread in 2020 and oof, the thing’s got problems. And the MCU has gotten my “appreciate the riffs on the original” muscles in decent shape.

I can’t be *sure* I’m able to judge the series as its own thing. But I *think* that, as its own thing, the Cleon parts make for pretty good Prestige TV with a clever premise, and the rest is a hash, with some decent actors dragged down by bad writing.
