Okay, shows what I know, I always thought "Slatepitch" was a term of derision for a type of glib, contrarian journalism (a type of writing that was Slate at its worst, not its best). Turns out some people aspire to Slatepitchery.
The old Slate was very beloved by its target audience: well-to-do white college grads of centrist politics. You need to understand that not everyone falls into that demographics.

Since the new Slate seems beloved by no one, and provides the same point of view as dozens of other publications, the point that something has been lost stands.
