My sense is that US reporting on this issue has failed US readers & even Canada; treating these folks from a US-centric perspective that gives them more credibility than they enjoy in Canada.

It's as though US journalists can't imagine ppl behaving selfishly and idiotically as minoritarian outliers: coz they're so used to them as a serious "side" that requires a bothsidesy treatment.

Is there anything written at a lay person's level you'd point to that explains & contextualizes these efforts to replace traditional economic signifiers of class with cultural ones? I.e. millionaire car dealership owners are 'working class' but baristas with phds are not
