I don't thin you can fight fascism by empowering the armed agents of the state. Just a thought.

True enough. But the democratic state has to respond robustly to the fascist threat IMO. The “do nothing” approach Canada has taken so far has been the absolute worst thing we could do.

One of the points Paxton makes very clearly in The Anatomy of Fascism is that fascism fills vacuums vacated by the state. Think of the death of Liberal Italy. Where the state is ineffectual fascism takes advantage. Canada is proving quite ineffectual at dealing with this so far.
