Not only is no one trying to cancel Pulp Fiction, but you can watch Pulp Fiction now on Netflix. In fact, as far as I can tell, it's almost always available on Netflix for nearly as long as I've used the service. That's true of very few movies that are nearly 30 years old.https://twitter.com/DavidKlion/status/1490741295786119170 …

It's also a weird premise because no, you literally couldn't make Pulp Fiction today—it was made in 1994 when John Travolta was 39, and if you wanted to remake it today you'd change many things! And meanwhile no one is trying to cancel the actual existing 1994 movie Pulp Fiction!

yes but they need to make Pulp Fiction again, and again, and again, unceasingly, we must make Pulp Fiction over and over and over, all of our film industry should be devoted to just making Pulp Fiction, the movie, the same movie, forever

Sorry that rule only applies to Spider Man and Batman.

Just three years ago Tarantino made a film which showed an Asian-American as the punchline of a violent joke! (I found the bit funny.)

Literally the only reason this is a conversation right now is because the guy WATCHED IT on some major streaming service or cable network the other night. Obviously wouldn't be cancelled if they are currently airing it.

I love that all it takes now to start one of these controversies is for a dumb guy to say "Dur you couldn't make that today". No one even has to actually try to cancel it, someone will just watch an old movie and get proactively mad at those darn kids these days.

That might have to do more with the uniqueness of the rights to the movie than anything else. (Miramax was bought by Disney and then sold to some VC funds. If a traditional studio owned the movie, it probably wouldn’t be on Netflix.)

the cancel culture discourse has evolved to a point where the thing needing to be saved from cancellation is literally universally adored

I guess the ease with which this happened is inadvertently revealing, reminding us once again that the cancel culture discourse was never "should we delete these complicated things from society" but "please do not talk about complicated parts of things, it makes me uncomfortable"
