3. "Fascism" isn't just any bad form of politics or even authoritarianism: it's the politics that emerges in liberal democracies that are gridlocked, which opens up a path for strongman leader whose path to power comes from fusing conservative elite & roughneck street fighters.

4. John has a very fruitful way of thinking about fascism as a process & the way it parallels (or sometimes doesn't parallel) contemporary anti-systems right. I think part of the problem is that there are so few WWII vets alive to tell these people to SDSTFU. By my guess the youngest vets are in their mid-90s.
