That'd be a fine argument IF the Right wasn't banning books all over the country for the same flimsy reasons. Why are white people continually given the benefit of the doubt in these cases? I understand why but it's still maddening.

This is like the idea that people have to shout the n-word to propagate white supremacy. This is an old book. The fact that it's being banned now cannot be separated from the fact that half of the country uses "woke" as an insult. It pervades the culture.
