Weird what about-isms since the crucial point that medical misinformation in the midst of a pandemic is different than other types of misinformation.

Okay, so in your view we'll have a panel decide which sorts of misinformation are okay, and why, and this panel will decide that The Nation's misinformation -- largely delivered while people were being killed and blocks burned down in rioting -- isn't severe enough?

I think you and I have a very different understanding of what causes people to riot.

Okay, so your view is that online misinformation can't contribute to rioting but can contribute to evidenceless medical decisions. Can you explain?

Yeah, I think it's obvious that false medical advice will (since its offered as advice) sometimes be acted on. Riots on the other hand (based on my reading of historians like Hobsbawm, Davis, Sugrue & others) seem much more multicausal. Again, we'll have to agree to disagree.

Distrust of the medical establishment isn't also multicausal? No way the rejection of CDC guidance might have any connection to the opioid epidemic, or the collapse of our educational system, or increasing polarization driven by the sorts of inflammatory claims The Nation made?

Distrust of medical establishment is often warranted and can lead to good things (i.e. critiques of pharma monopolies.) That's pretty distinct from peddling quack remedies.

Well, I'm glad you're so extremely confident in your ability to thread that needle perfectly that you're comfortable demanding capitalists deplatform people who don't agree! That definitely won't entrench the skepticism and frustration anti-vaxxers have, no sir.

Where have I called on capitalists to deplatform anybody. I've said I'm okay with people boycotting spotify if they think the company spreads medical misinformation. That's a different thing, no?

I'm sorry, is the claim that these boycotts are not meant to push Spotify to deplatform him?

Spotify is not going to deplatform Rogen so that seems moot. It's okay to boycott a company just because you think they are harmful even if you can't their behaviour.

It's not moot - just because a community's totally unrealistic demands will never be accomplished doesn't mean their motivation doesn't matter! How many currently speaking up about a boycott *want* Spotify to kick him off? Would do so if they could?
