It's very hard to tell what causes the most damage. GMO crops can save countles people from starvation, and it's very hard to run counterfactuals about what would or wouldn't happen without them in a given place. Same with the ? of the exact causal effect of vaccine misinfohttps://twitter.com/jbrenner2000/status/1487480454198476804 …

Okay, so your view is that online misinformation can't contribute to rioting but can contribute to evidenceless medical decisions. Can you explain?

The repeated misinformation surrounding the Blake shooting definitely caused some ppl to riot…is that even disputable?

Yeah. Read some history. Start here and also Heather Thompson's work.https://press.princeton.edu/books/paperback/9780691162553/the-origins-of-the-urban-crisis …

We know. But the other side will have equally glib and self serving justifications for why their concerns are significant and yours not and they too will hold power. Are you sure you want to play this game with them?

I think the idea that riots cannot have different causes is pretty odd. Pogroms are also a type of mob destruction, which we know for certain misinformation helps fuel. Strange to think that the misinformation regarding the Blake shooting had nothing to do with the following

riots, nor the well publicized deaths during those riots. Tacitly admitting that your publication has produced egregious misinformation, but it is somehow fundamentally less bad and shouldn't have the same response you call for other misinformation is pretty gross.
