1. This is a good thread but saying there's no anti-Semitism & Holocaust denialism misses the point since it's very clear from the minutes that the swear words & nudity are pretextual for larger discomfort about a story about the Holocaust.https://twitter.com/CoreyRobin/status/1486726479723393034 …

7. The aversion to teaching the darker details about the Holocaust is very similar to the freakout over 1619 & history of slavery in general. It's about much more than swear words or nudity. More here:https://jeetheer.substack.com/p/maus-in-tennessee?r=bh54&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=emai …

Will they apply the same standards to, say, WW2 or 9/11?

Oh, but it does get at Holocaust denial and expropriation of Holocaust related terms, because if you don't teach the history and context, it's easier for those who want to misuse the terminology to water down what atrocities did occur.

It's especially troubling if the results of this survey are valid - around 1/3 of high school students think the holocaust is exaggeratedhttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/toronto-group-wants-holocaust-education-to-be-mandatory-1.6327488?__vfz=medium%3Dsharebar …

I think this accounts for some of the anti-CRT vibe that comes from left-ish directions. The real history of the country is too ugly and scary and triggering, and we all need to be protected from that so we can hug our myths and enjoy cozy 99% normalcy.

I read the minutes and what I read was that these people operate on a level of a child themselves. That's why they don't get that book completely. That's why he asks what that bit about the father is about or that he doesn't like the ending.

They understand the value about teaching about bad things but they don't understand the intricacies in stories or what is important about it and why. Because they don't think as "deeply" as some do and don't need nor want to.Maybe not even capable. You call it anti-...and harmful

Thinking like that is not the greatest of "intellect" and yes it can be viewed as harmful but humans aren't all alike. Some just can't be what you wish them to be. It's not really bad INTENT. It's sad that some are like that but I don't believe you can force being intellectual.

They want it explained like you would a child of 3 when a pet dies or a family member. Soft and maybe a white lie. Yes, that's not intellectual but I honestly believe there are MILLIONS of humans who will NEVER operate much more beyond that level. That's not malignant intent.
