Some of cringe is purely elite, but some of it (obsessive Harry Potter fandom) is not. The people who hate it politically are pretty much exclusively elite. And of course, us having this conversation is extremely cringe — which is part of the problem with the concept.

But we’re not talking Harry Potter, we’re talking Hamilton. There’s no conception of “elite” that includes Jeet but excludes Nancy Pelosi.
