As a political creature though, I took Dole as lukewarm at times. He defended Nixon (who didn't exactly like him, right?) He craved the presidency. But he had to wait his turn. When he did, he still had that charisma deficit. He wasn't a Nat'l campaigner beyond being a MTP guest.
