Speaking as a non-serious journalist and twitter rando, I wish you'd still engage in these debates (ideally in essays rather than twitter) because figuring out to what degree authoritarianism is a threat remains important.

What you need is a theory of the state that understands its authoritarian features, without identifying those exclusively with fascism. Poulantzas on Authoritarian Statism is a good place to start
