It's maybe extreme to say this is the media consensus on Chris Cuomo but you are seeing a lot of people explicitly saying family loyalty trumps ethical obligations. Which is not good.https://twitter.com/LEBassett/status/1465881548239122434 …

Yglesias is being sarcastic like most of his tweets
Y’all let him skate by on “just joking/trolling” a ridiculous amount
Interesting. That's not how I read these statements. I think they're meant to virtue signal a kind of anti-wokeness, part of a larger discourse about cancel culture and people abandoning problematic family members. See, e.g.https://www.mediaite.com/news/molly-jong-fast-had-to-call-the-fbi-due-to-death-threats-after-joking-about-reporting-relatives-to-fbi-on-thanksgiving/ …
you should really just take them as face value admissions of their ethics. this isn’t 4d chess. yglesias is a bad guy but he’s a blatant one who would specifically say that if that were his point.
guessing you never got abused by a family member and told someone only to be told to shut up bc it’s family / they didn’t mean it / you deserved it? abusers clump together, it’s a super common family dynamic. and yes it turns into national politics.
Mafia ethic is exactly it. Tribal loyalty trumps principles.
“I confess to some ambivalence. If your daughter was a terrible journalist wouldn’t you at least publicly pretend otherwise?”
