2. There's a school of thought that Greenwald has always been bad. That's just false, although his reflexive contrarianism has sometimes led him into perverse, from about 2005 to 2016 he was a principled critic of torture, imperialism and even xenophobia. He's changed now.

When Greenwald throws in with someone, he treats them as a law client. He will argue whatever is required to maintain his position, no matter how absurd, how easily refuted, how out of touch with reality.

This right here is correct. He’s still the same “free speech” lawyer from before he was well known. His MO never changed, just the tap of his social clout.
